Used Engines and Transmissions Delivered to Harare

Harare is a regular destination for South African engines and gearboxes, and the road from our Potchefstroom headquarters is one of the best-known trucking routes in the region. Zimbabwe is not part of the Southern African Customs Union, so a little more paperwork is involved, but with a good clearing agent the process is routine.

North through Beitbridge

The unit travels from Potchefstroom to Johannesburg on the N12, then up the N1 past Pretoria, Polokwane and Musina to the Beitbridge border on the Limpopo River. Once cleared, the truck continues on the A4 through Masvingo to Harare. Freight to Zimbabwe moves with carriers that specialise in this corridor, and border queues at Beitbridge can add time, so plan for several working days or more.

Customs and duty

Clearance at Beitbridge and any duty or import VAT charged by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority are paid by the buyer, normally through a clearing agent on the Zimbabwean side. We supply a commercial invoice and the engine number paperwork, and we are happy to send copies to your agent ahead of time so they can prepare the entry before the truck reaches the border. Check with your agent about import rules for used engines before you pay.

Paying for the unit

Prices are quoted in South African rand and payment is made in rand before dispatch. Many Zimbabwean buyers pay through a South African bank account or a relative in South Africa; whatever method you use, the payment must reflect in rand.

What Harare drives

Zimbabwe’s roads are full of right-hand drive vehicles imported second-hand from Japan, alongside older South African models. In general terms, mechanics in Harare look for units for:

  • Japanese import hatchbacks, station wagons and minivans
  • Toyota, Isuzu and Nissan bakkies used for business and farming
  • Kombis and buses running commuter routes
  • Trucks working the Beitbridge to Harare and Chirundu corridors
