Who we are
Home of Engine & Transmissions supplies replacement engines and transmissions to workshops, fleet operators and private owners across South Africa and the wider SADC region. Our stock covers low-mileage used units imported mainly from the UK, new crate engines, and heavy-duty truck engines and transmissions sourced as takeouts and auction units from the United States.
The business you deal with today came about when two established engine businesses joined forces under one name. Between the people behind it, that adds up to more than 40 years in the motor trade. We kept the best habits of both teams: straight answers, careful checking and no guesswork on fitment.
Where we work from
Our headquarters is at Wilgeboom Plot 153 outside Potchefstroom in North West. Every order is checked, crated and dispatched from here, whether it is going to a workshop down the road, a fleet yard in Gqeberha or a customer in Gaborone or Windhoek. We deliver to all nine provinces and to Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini and Malawi.
How we check a unit
A replacement engine is only useful if it is the right one and it runs. Before anything is quoted we ask for your VIN or engine code, so we match the unit to your actual vehicle and not just to the model name. Before a unit leaves the yard we:
- verify the engine or gearbox code against your vehicle details
- run a compression test where the engine type allows it
- inspect it for visible damage, leaks and missing parts
- confirm which ancillaries are fitted, such as the alternator, aircon pump, power steering pump or turbo, so you know exactly what is in the crate
Used engines carry a 3-month, unlimited kilometre warranty on internal components when fitted by an RMI-registered workshop, and manual and automatic gearboxes have their own cover. The full terms are on our warranty page, written in plain language so there are no surprises later.
Who we supply
Most of our orders come from independent workshops that need a reliable unit quickly, so a customer’s car or bakkie is not standing on the floor for weeks. We also supply fleet operators who need trucks and delivery vehicles back on the road, and private owners who would rather replace an engine than the whole vehicle. Workshops that buy regularly can apply for our trade partner programme.
What we stand for
We would rather tell you we do not have the right unit than sell you one that nearly fits. Prices are quoted in rand with VAT included, and delivery is spelt out on the quote. If a unit has a known limitation, we tell you before you pay. When something does go wrong, we deal with it according to the written warranty, the same way for every customer.
