Used Engines and Transmissions Delivered to Maputo

Maputo is closer than many people expect. The Mozambican capital sits just across the border from Mpumalanga, and the N4 Maputo Corridor links it to Gauteng with one of the best roads in the region. That makes it a practical destination for engines and transmissions sent from our Potchefstroom headquarters.

Along the Maputo Corridor

The unit leaves Potchefstroom on the N12 through Johannesburg to eMalahleni, then follows the N4 east through Middelburg and Mbombela to Komatipoort. The border crossing is Lebombo on the South African side and Ressano Garcia on the Mozambican side, after which the EN4 carries on to Matola and Maputo. Freight carriers run this corridor constantly, but Lebombo is a busy post, so allow several working days for delivery.

Clearing customs in Mozambique

Mozambique is not a member of the Southern African Customs Union. Import duty, VAT and clearance fees charged by the Mozambique Revenue Authority are paid by the buyer, normally through a licensed clearing agent at Ressano Garcia or in Maputo. We supply the commercial invoice and engine number paperwork in English, and your agent can advise whether any translated or additional documents are needed on their side.

How payment works

Quotes are in South African rand and the full amount must reflect in rand before dispatch. Your bank or a money transfer service can convert meticais for you. The quote shows the unit price and the freight cost, so you know what to send.

The Maputo vehicle mix

Like Zimbabwe and Zambia, Mozambique has a large number of right-hand drive vehicles imported used from Japan. Broadly, workshops in Maputo and Matola look for units for:

• Japanese import sedans, hatchbacks and minivans
• Toyota bakkies and SUVs used in business and on rural roads
• Chapas, the minibus taxis that move people around the city
• Trucks working the port and the corridor to South Africa
