Used Engines and Transmissions Delivered to Lusaka

Lusaka is one of the furthest cities we deliver to, and there is more than one way to get there. Zambia is not part of the Southern African Customs Union, and the trip from our Potchefstroom headquarters involves at least one border crossing, so we plan each order with the buyer and their clearing agent.

Two routes north

The first option runs up the N1 through Polokwane and Musina to Beitbridge, through Zimbabwe via Masvingo and Harare, and across the Zambezi at Chirundu, from where the road climbs to Lusaka. The second option heads west and north through Botswana, crossing at Kopfontein or Skilpadshek, running up through Francistown to Kazungula, where the bridge over the Zambezi leads into Zambia near Livingstone before the road continues to Lusaka. Freight carriers choose the route based on their schedules, transit documents and current border conditions, and delivery usually takes a week or more.

Customs on arrival

Clearance in Zambia, plus any duty, excise or import VAT charged by the Zambia Revenue Authority, is the buyer’s responsibility and is normally handled by your clearing agent. Transit through Zimbabwe or Botswana also needs documents, which the freight company arranges. We supply the commercial invoice and the engine number paperwork, and we share them with your agent early so they can prepare.

Rand payments

Your quote is in South African rand and payment must reflect in rand before the unit leaves Potchefstroom. Ask your bank about the best way to send funds from Zambia.

Zambian vehicles

As in Zimbabwe, many vehicles in Zambia are right-hand drive imports from Japan, along with bakkies and trucks bought from South Africa. In general, demand covers:

  • Japanese import cars, wagons and minibuses
  • Toyota and other bakkies used by businesses and farmers
  • Trucks hauling copper and goods between the Copperbelt, Lusaka and the ports
  • Contractor and mining vehicles
