The story of this engine

The Y17DT is the 1.7 DTI 16-valve turbo diesel that Opel fitted to the Corsa C from 2000 to 2003. With 1,686 cc, 55 kW and 165 N·m, it was never meant to be fast. Its job was to give a small car diesel economy and easy low-speed pulling, and it did that well.

The DTI badge marks it as a direct-injection turbo diesel from the period just before common-rail engines took over Opel's small-car range. That makes it mechanically simpler than the later CDTI units, which is one reason owners keep these cars running long after they have paid them off.

Most surviving Y17DT engines have high mileage. Before fitting a used one, check the turbo for oil leaks and shaft play, test the injection pump and injectors, look for oil leaks at the cam cover and front seals, and confirm the cam belt history. Hard starting when hot or cold often points to injection pump wear on older diesels like this.
