The story of this engine

The VQ37VHR is the final big step in the long-running VQ V6 story. Nissan stretched the stroke of the 3.5-litre engine to 86 mm, raised compression to 11.0:1 and added VVEL, its variable valve event and lift system, which Nissan used on a production engine for the first time here. The result is a V6 that pulls to a 7,500 rpm redline.

It powered the 370Z from 2009 and the Infiniti G37 coupe and sedan, both of which reached South African showrooms. In the 370Z it makes 248 kW, and the NISMO version went higher still. Because it lives in sports cars, many examples have been driven hard, so history matters.

When checking a used VQ37VHR, look at oil consumption, the condition of the oil, any sign of overheating, and listen for valvetrain or timing-chain noise. The engine is known to run hot oil temperatures in hard driving, so a good cooling and oil history is worth asking about. Confirm the correct intake and sump for your car before fitting.

Workshops like this engine because it is well understood, uses chain-driven cams and has a large support base worldwide. Send us your VIN and current engine code so we match the right version to your 370Z or G37.

FAQs

Will this engine fit my 370Z?

The VQ37VHR was fitted to the 370Z from 2009 and to the Infiniti G37. Send your VIN and current engine code on WhatsApp and we will confirm the match before you pay.

What is included?

The engine as shown in the photos with its code verified. Gearbox, ECU, harness, fluids and fitment labour are excluded unless agreed in writing.

What warranty applies?

This is a high-performance unit, so it carries a start-up warranty only. Have it fitted by an RMI-registered workshop with new oil, filters and coolant.

Can you deliver to neighbouring countries?

Yes. We deliver across South Africa and can arrange freight to Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini and Malawi.

What is VVEL?

Variable Valve Event and Lift. It varies intake valve lift and duration, helping the VQ37VHR breathe at high revs while staying tractable low down.
