Mitsubishi Lancer / Grandis BWC 2.0 DI-D Diesel Engine for Sale — South Africa

This is one of the odd ones in the Mitsubishi catalogue. When Mitsubishi needed a modern diesel for its European Lancer and Grandis, it did not build one: it bought in Volkswagen's 2.0-litre Pumpe Duse turbo-diesel and badged it DI-D. The Grandis started with the 100 kW BSY version and switched to the 103 kW BWC in 2008, and the Lancer used the BWC from 2007 to 2010.

Underneath the Mitsubishi covers it is the same unit-injector diesel that powered a generation of VW Group cars, with each injector driven off the camshaft for very high injection pressure. That gives strong pulling from low revs and good economy, which is why these cars made sense to European buyers doing long distances.

Because the engine is Volkswagen at heart, parts and know-how are easier to find than the Mitsubishi badge suggests, and any workshop familiar with the 2.0 TDI PD will be at home. On a used unit, check the camshaft lobes and rockers for wear, since the PD design loads them heavily, and make sure the correct VW-spec oil goes in after fitment. Inspect the injector wiring loom, the turbo for shaft play and the intercooler pipes for oil. Confirm the mounting points and sensor plugs against your car, as the Mitsubishi installation differs from the VW one.
