The story of this engine

The CZC is the 92 kW, 125 PS version of Volkswagen's EA211 1.4 TSI. It arrived as the second-generation small turbo petrol, after VW moved away from the chain-driven EA111 engines. The block is aluminium, the camshafts are driven by a toothed belt, and a single turbocharger with an electric wastegate gives a flat 200 Nm from 1,500 rpm all the way to 4,000 rpm.

That wide torque band is the reason these engines feel bigger than their size in daily driving. The 125 PS 1.4 TSI found its way into the Golf 7 range from 2014, and EA211 1.4 TSI engines were shared across the Jetta, Polo, Audi A1 and A3 and Skoda Octavia families, so parts support is good.

On a used CZC, check the cam belt history, look for coolant weeping around the plastic thermostat and water pump housing, and confirm the wastegate actuator moves freely. Carbon on the intake valves is normal for direct injection and worth cleaning if the head is off.
