The story of this engine

The CVH was Ford's workhorse four-cylinder for two decades, and the 2.0 is the last and largest version of it. It uses a single overhead camshaft, two valves per cylinder and a cam belt that also drives the water pump. In its final form Ford added Split Port Induction, a variable intake that gives the engine better pulling power low down, and badged it SPI2000 in the Escort and Split Port in the first Focus.

Buyers often call this engine a Zetec, because it sat alongside the 16-valve Zetec in the same era and the two share some stroke dimensions. They are different engines, so tell us which head you have before ordering. An eight-valve CVH will not bolt straight in where a twin-cam Zetec came out.

The appeal is simplicity. The CVH is a non-interference design, so a snapped belt usually means a tow rather than bent valves, and the parts are cheap and easy to source. Known wear points are hydraulic lifters that tick on a cold start, oil leaks from the cam cover and front seal, and a tired intake runner valve. Check the belt history and replace the water pump while the front is open.

Is this a CVH or a Zetec engine?

It is listed as a 2.0 CVH, the eight-valve single-cam engine. The Zetec is a separate 16-valve twin-cam design. Send a photo of your old engine or your VIN and we will confirm before you pay.

What is included?

The engine as shown in the photos with its code checked. Gearbox, clutch, ECU, harness, fluids and timing kit are not included unless we confirm otherwise on WhatsApp.

What warranty applies?

3 months on internal engine components, provided the engine is fitted by an RMI-registered workshop with new oil, filters and coolant.
