The story of this engine

The JTJA is the 1.6 EcoBoost that turned the Fiesta into a proper hot hatch. Ford took its 1,596 cc turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder, with a 79 mm bore and 81.4 mm stroke and 10.0:1 compression, and tuned it to 134 kW for the Fiesta ST that ran from 2013 to 2017.

In South Africa the Fiesta ST built a loyal following among enthusiasts and track-day drivers, and the engine responds well to tuning. That is part of why a used JTJA needs careful checking: many have been remapped, some have been driven hard, and a few have done both on poor fuel.

Look at the turbo for shaft play and oil in the intercooler and pipes. Ask about remap history and fuel quality, since detonation can damage pistons on any tuned turbo petrol. Check for coolant loss, which can point to head or block trouble on EcoBoost engines, and inspect the timing belt and water pump history. Carbon build-up on the intake valves is common on direct-injection engines and affects smooth running.

Workshops like a same-code JTJA swap because the ST's management and wiring are matched, and owners get their car back as Ford built it. Because these engines are often used hard, the warranty is start-up only.

Is this the ST180 or ST200 engine?

JTJA is the 182 PS Fiesta ST engine. The ST200 had a higher rating. Send your VIN and we confirm your car's code.

Can I remap it after fitting?

Many owners do, but a remap is at your own risk and ends any warranty. Fit it standard and run it in first.

What warranty applies?

This is a high-performance unit, so it carries a start-up warranty only. Fitment must be by an RMI-registered workshop with new oil, filters and coolant.

Do you deliver outside South Africa?
