Warranty policy

What our warranty covers, what keeps it valid and how to claim.

Last updated: 29 October 2026

This policy explains the warranty that comes with units bought from Home of Engine & Transmissions. It is in addition to, and does not reduce, your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

1. Warranty periods

  • Used engines: 3 months, unlimited kilometres, on internal engine components.
  • Turbochargers fitted to used engines: 7 days.
  • Manual gearboxes: 3 months on internal parts.
  • Automatic gearboxes: 2 months on internal parts.
  • High-performance engines: start-up warranty only.
  • Truck, new and reconditioned units: the warranty is confirmed in writing with your quote.

2. Fitment conditions

The warranty is only valid if the unit is fitted by an RMI-registered workshop and the following are done at fitment:

  • new engine oil and oil filter, and new air and fuel filters
  • a new thermostat and new spark plugs or glow plugs as applicable
  • fresh coolant and a radiator flush, with water pipes, water pump, seals and gaskets checked and replaced where needed
  • a new timing belt on all belt-driven engines
  • timing and valve clearances set to the manufacturer’s specification
  • compatibility with the vehicle checked before installation

Keep the workshop’s fitment invoice showing these items. You need it to register the warranty and to make a claim.

3. What is not covered

  • accessories and ancillaries, including alternators, starters, manifolds and clutches
  • injectors, electronics, sensors and wiring
  • timing belts and timing chains
  • seals, including valve stem seals, and oil leaks
  • damage caused by overheating, incorrect fluids, incorrect timing or poor installation
  • belt-driven engines fitted without a new timing belt
  • modified engines, or engines fitted to vehicles used for modification or racing
  • labour, towing, courier costs, downtime and rental vehicles

4. How to claim

  1. Stop using the vehicle as soon as you notice a fault, to prevent further damage.
  2. Contact us on sales@homeofengineworld.co.za or WhatsApp +27 (0)67 163 9326 within the warranty period.
  3. Send your purchase invoice, the workshop’s fitment invoice, photos or video of the fault and a clear explanation of what happened.
  4. Do not strip or open the engine or gearbox before reporting the fault and receiving our instructions. Stripping a unit before reporting voids the warranty.
  5. We assess the claim and may ask for the unit to be inspected or returned. If the claim is valid we will repair or replace the unit, or refund you where a replacement is not available.

5. Workshop trade partners

Approved members of our Workshop Trade Partner Programme may receive an extended 6-month warranty on approved units, subject to the same fitment conditions and claims process.
