Questions we get every day
Straight answers to the questions workshops and owners ask us before they order.
Most questions we get fall into a few groups: will it fit, what condition is it in, what does the warranty cover, and how does it get to me. The answers below are written to match our actual policies, so they are a good place to start. If your question is about a specific vehicle, the quickest route is to WhatsApp us your VIN or engine code on +27 (0)67 163 9326 and we will answer for that exact unit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make sure the engine will fit my vehicle?
Send us your VIN and, if you have it, the engine code stamped on the block. We match the unit to those codes rather than to the model name, because many models were built with more than one engine and gearbox. We confirm fitment in writing before you pay.
What condition are your used engines in, and what mileage?
Our used units are low-mileage imports, mainly from the UK. Mileage varies from unit to unit, so ask us about the specific engine we quote you. Every unit is inspected and code-checked before dispatch, and compression tested where the engine type allows it.
What is included with the engine?
It depends on the unit. Where fitted, a used engine may come with ancillaries such as the alternator, aircon pump, power steering pump and turbo. Your quote states what is included, so ask us if anything specific matters for your job.
What warranty do I get?
Used engines carry 3 months, unlimited kilometres, on internal components and 7 days on the turbo. Manual gearboxes carry 3 months and automatic gearboxes 2 months on internal parts. High-performance engines have a start-up warranty only. Warranty on truck, new and reconditioned units is confirmed in writing with the quote. All cover depends on fitment by an RMI-registered workshop as set out in our warranty policy.
What is not covered by the warranty?
Accessories, injectors, electronics, sensors, clutches, manifolds, alternators, starters, timing belts and chains, seals and modified engines are not covered. Damage from overheating, oil leaks, incorrect installation or a belt-driven engine fitted without a new timing belt is also excluded.
How do I pay?
By EFT or card. Full payment is needed to reserve a unit, because stock is sold first come, first served. We do not offer lay-by, deposits or instalments.
Do your prices include VAT?
Yes. All prices are in South African rand and include 15% VAT. Delivery is free to any address in South Africa on orders of R50,000 and above. Smaller orders and cross-border deliveries are quoted for your address and shown on the quote before you pay.
How long does delivery take?
Units are dispatched from Potchefstroom once payment has cleared and the pre-dispatch check is done. Main centres are usually reached within a few working days, while outlying areas and cross-border deliveries take longer. We give you an estimate with the quote and tracking once it ships.
Do you deliver outside South Africa?
Yes, to Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini and Malawi. We prepare the export paperwork. Customs duties, import VAT and clearing charges in the destination country are paid by the buyer.
Can I return a unit?
Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to return a unit that has not been fitted, run or stripped. Returns within 7 days carry no restocking fee; change-of-mind returns on days 8 to 14 carry a 15% restocking fee. Defective or incorrect units come back free of charge, and refunds go to your original payment method within 7 to 14 working days. See our returns and refunds page for the full policy.
Do you offer trade accounts for workshops?
Yes. RMI-registered workshops can apply for our Workshop Trade Partner Programme, which includes an extended 6-month warranty on approved units, priority support and volume discounts, subject to approval.
Do you supply truck engines and transmissions?
Yes. We source heavy-duty diesel engines and transmissions for trucks and buses. Send us the chassis number, engine serial and transmission model and we will quote what is available, with the warranty confirmed in writing.
Do you sell new crate engines?
Yes, for selected applications. A crate engine is a new unit supplied ready to fit. Ask us for availability and pricing for your vehicle.
Can you arrange fitment?
We can arrange fitment through partner workshops that are RMI-registered. The workshop quotes and invoices the labour directly.
